Job Description:
As a division within the City of Tacoma Government, the Office of Environmental Policy and Sustainability works to develop, promote, and implement sustainable practices through education, community partnerships, and performance management. The City is in the process of updating our Climate Action Plan. This plan, along with directives outlined in the climate resolution provide measurable targets and updated quantitative data to guide actions and solutions to mitigate climate impacts. This new plan (and all actions therein) will be centered on equity and anti-racist systems transformation. The new Climate Action Plan will directly dictate much of the work conducted by an AmeriCorps member serving with our organization. The AmeriCorps member will help achieve goals outlined in the City’s Climate Action Plan using strategies of community outreach, engagement, and education. The member will help to promote sustainable practices and increase environmental awareness to citizens, businesses, government agencies, and non-profit organizations through outreach events; including supporting the South Sound Sustainability Expo, Earth Month activities, social media and web content development, presentations, and trainings. These outreach events also involve volunteer coordination and direct service with beneficiaries. The member will research and network with other regional and local organizations to learn best practices and collaborate on joint projects. Recruitment and interviews are expected to be conducted in late-June 2021, with a decision made by mid-July 2021. Position contingent on funding
