Community & Home Supports is seeking a half-time AmeriCorps Member to serve as Outreach Specialist from October 4th, 2021 through September 30th, 2022. CHS’s mission is to assist homeless and chronically homeless individuals and families through assessment, navigation, and housing case management. Hosting an AmeriCorps member will allow CHS to expand its organizational capacity and optimize processes to provide the highest quality of services to clients with the goal of ending homelessness in Southeast Michigan. MCAH’s AmeriCorps members join a corps of 23 members serving with housing and homeless service providers across the state in an effort to provide direct, supportive services to individuals experiencing or at-risk of homelessness. Members will receive training from the program through orientation, mid-year, and end-year training as well as on-going webinars/trainings focused on professional development and networking. Sites will provide position-specific training, including training and licensing in the Michigan Statewide Homeless Management Information System. Service benefits include a $7,994 living stipend (pre-tax, distributed bi-weekly) and a $3,172.50 Segal Education Award. Job Responsibilities:

The Outreach Specialist will work with the Navigation team at CHS to conduct intakes and provide housing counseling and navigation services to clients. Their role will primarily be to conduct intakes with lower-acuity clients who have been referred to limited housing resources and not prioritized for extensive case management by the Detroit Continuum of Care. These intakes and service delivery will occur in-person, telephonically, and virtually depending on agency needs and Member preference. The Member will explain and fill HCV applications with clients and provide appropriate housing counseling and resources tailored to the individual client’s self-determined housing goals. The Housing Specialist will further maintain regular contact with other service providers to ensure service delivery, make appropriate referrals to other community resources, and maintain accurate records in HMIS and other agency databases.
