Job Description:
The San Diego Water Board’s Compliance Assurance Unit has an opening for a Water Resource Control Engineer. Under close supervision of a Senior Environmental Scientist, the incumbent will perform the full range of engineering work related to California Regional Water Quality Control Board, San Diego Region (San Diego Water Board) water quality programs. The position is located in the heart of Mission Valley at 2375 Northside Drive, San Diego, California, next to light rail stations and other public transportation.
Job Requirements:
- Familiarity with regional water quality conditions and requirements.
- Proficiency with standard office software such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Experience with ArcGIS programs or other GIS programs is also highly desirable.
- Knowledge or work experience related to enforcement of water quality requirements.
- Demonstrated interest in water quality control-related work.
- Ability to apply good judgment in analyzing water quality issues.
- Knowledge of physical, biological, and chemical factors relating to the control of water pollution and water quality; aquatic ecology, chemistry, biology, and statistics; and management of surface waters and groundwaters.
- Ability to conduct site inspections, field investigations, and collection of water and wastewater samples.
- Experience in developing, implementing, or overseeing permits, waste discharge requirements, and/or water quality certifications.
- Knowledge of the interpretation, implementation, and enforcement of State and federal statutes, regulations, and policies, including relevant sections of the federal Clean Water Act and California Water Code, concerning water quality control and enforcement.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to interact with the public, solicit and respond to public comments on work products, and make effective public presentations or briefings.
