Job Description:

This class is designed to be used in a California Highway Patrol area office or substation with nine or fewer patrol cars or to assist an Automotive Technician in a larger area office. Incumbents will be assigned a combination of duties in automotive maintenance and records, office janitorial work, and outside grounds maintenance as required by the job

Job Responsibilities:

Maintain cleanliness of Redding Area facility and Area office exterior property, including mopping/waxing floors, vacuuming carpets, emptying and cleaning waste receptacles, washing windows and doors, cleaning window sills, cleaning blinds, cleaning/dusting furniture and equipment. Conduct daily cleaning of restroom facilities and re-supplying of all paper products and soap. Clean break room including appliances, tables, cabinets, and counter-tops. Clean exterior of building including the parking lot area, sidewalks, fuel bays and parking garage. Minor repairs, changing filters, replacing light bulbs, moving furniture and supplies, mowing, trimming and maintaining lawn, trees, maintaining or replacing ornamental plantings and irrigation equipment. Assist the Area Automotive Technician, on a limited basis, by performing routine tasks related to tire maintenance, transport and refueling of vehicles. Inspect, remove, rotate, mount, insert studs, balance tires, inventory and stack tires in shelves. Deliver motor vehicles to automotive shops and garages for necessary maintenance and repair. Clean departmental vehicles inside and out, vacuuming and washing. Review all facility repair invoices/bids for building repairs to assure accuracy of charges and ensure labor rates are appropriate for repairs performed. Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • Skill in: Operating automotive vehicles.
  • Ability to: Read and write English at a level required for successful job performance; maintain records and make accurate arithmetical computations; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the work; analyze situations accurately and take effective action.
  • Knowledge of: Automotive equipment terms and parts used in automobile manufacture; preventive maintenance; repair procedures and service requirements of motor vehicles; tools and equipment used in repairing automotive equipment; methods, material, chemicals, disinfectants, and equipment used in janitorial work; safety practices in janitorial work; proper methods of caring for hedges, ornamental trees, shrubs, lawns, and flowers..
