Job Description:

Under general supervision, positions in this class are responsible for the processing of vehicles and equipment for maintenance & repair; accurate entry and maintenance of repair data in the Fleet information system; and has considerable independence in setting equipment repair priorities and assigning work. Serves as primary customer contact, ensuring workflow is progressing and completed in a timely manner; and performs other duties as required.

Job Responsibilities:

Receives service requests and generates work orders using Fleet information system for all City equipment; Determine vehicle and equipment needs; Monitors work orders and status entries to ensure work performed on vehicles and equipment is accurately entered into the Fleet information system; Issues work assignments to staff; Communicates with departments concerning the status of their vehicles and equipment and motor pool; Coordinates and tracks outside vendor repairs and recalls and invoices; Prepares Preventative Maintenance (PM) schedule and coordinates with using departments; Coordinates and tracks the status of parts requests; Coordinates the repair of vehicle accidents by collecting accident reports, police reports and contacts repair vendors for estimates; Reviews repair times for appropriateness for work performed; generates mechanic productivity reports; tracks staff time; receives completed work orders and time sheets from staff, checks for errors and completeness and enters staff labor into computer; Coordinates in-service and disposal process of vehicles and equipment; Test-drives vehicles and equipment and transports vehicles and equipment.

Job Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid Class “C” California driver’s license. A Class “B” California driver’s license must be obtained within the six-month probationary period.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in the automotive industry performing customer service or maintenance/repair of vehicles and equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the capabilities to perform the described job duties. Successful completion of appropriate trade school or technical course work in related area may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required work experience.
  • Graduation from high school or attainment of a satisfactory score on a G.E.D. test; AND
