Job Description:
Under immediate supervision of the Trades Helper Supervisor and general supervision of the Parks Maintenance Supervisor, the Trades Helper I performs manual labor involved with the development of a wide variety of projects to include, but not limited to, concrete work, minor electrical repairs, installation of playground equipment, benches, picnic tables, installation of signs and fencing, installation of drainage, completion of earthwork operations and welding. Employee also assists with special events support tasks for all City sponsored or supported events, such as the Holiday Parade, Marathon, 4th of July, Palmfest and others.
Job Responsibilities:
- Performs general construction activities to include demolition activities and construction of park improvements involving concrete, wood, metal, plastics, fiberglass and other materials.
- Performs installation of minor electrical, plumbing, mechanical and air conditioning systems.
- Assists with the movement of equipment and supplies for special events.
- Assists with installation of pre-manufactured facilities to include sport field lighting, playground structures, benches, tables, water fountains, signs, shade structures, etc.
- Serves as equipment operator for construction projects. Equipment includes backhoe, and grader.
- Assists on other job related assignments when requested. This may include working evening and/or weekend hours or during emergencies and natural disasters.
Complies with all City policies. - Performs all functions, duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner in compliance with OSHA and City safety policies and guidelines.
Job Requirements:
- Job requires a current, valid Texas Class C driver’s license.
- Must use good judgement, and exercise safety procedures.
- Must maintain a responsible demeanor and a helpful manner.
- Must be able to communicate with the public in a courteous and professional manner.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English.
