Job Description:

The City of Modesto is currently recruiting for After School Program Leaders to join our team. The Parks, Recreation and Neighborhoods Department works closely with the community providing programming to youth, seniors and all citizens.  As a department, we take our work seriously, but try not to take ourselves too seriously.  We strive to foster a collaborative and collegial atmosphere among staff while providing high quality programs, activities and events to the community and neighborhoods. We take pride in offering excellent community service while remaining adaptable and responsive to our residents’ needs and expectations.

Job Responsibilities:

• Supervise and maintain an appropriate student to staff ratio, maximum ratio of 20:1.
• Monitor and report any observations or concerns regarding the needs and problems of participants to supervisory staff.
• Provide academic assistance to program participants.
• Provide positive discipline and redirection to program participants, adhere and enforce all rules consistently and equitably.
• Attend all designated meetings and trainings.
• Plan and implement site curriculum, recreational and enrichment activities.
• Supervise program participants.
• Promote and ensure a safe and positive environment for all program participants.
• Assist in daily set-up and cleanup; maintain a clean, organized and safe environment for participants.

Job Requirements:

• Communicate in a clear and concise manner.
• Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Light custodial maintenance techniques.
• Instructional techniques and strategies.
• Positive discipline and redirection techniques.
• Practices and techniques to achieve group cooperation in recreation programs.
• State of California curriculum based on Common Core Standards.
• Work with various cultural and ethnic groups in a tactful and effective manner.
• Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work.
• CPR and First aid methods and procedures.
