The operations team incorporates a network of 23 Rehoming Centres, a Contact Centre based in Manchester, and the Transfer Centre at Penrith, which are all supported and managed by field-based teams and London based staff.
Responsible for the management of a team of Transfer Drivers, the post holder will ensure the transfer system contributes to maximum capacity across the network of rehoming centres, whilst factoring in economic efficiency and highest welfare standards for each individual dog. The post holder will also be responsible for the management & development of the kennels and the welfare of the dogs on site and in transit. They will be required to take the lead in the assessment of dogs entering or potentially entering Dogs Trust care and to provide training and professional guidance to all centre colleagues (staff & volunteers) in the implementation of enrichment and training programmes, ultimately maximising dog welfare within the transfer system. In addition, the successful candidate will be required to operate as duty/shift manager as needed and as such be responsible for the centre-based team and Home from Home fostering and rehoming support. .
The successful candidate will have significant supervisory experience, excellent knowledge of dog welfare requirements with the ability to identify deteriorating or poor welfare and find ways to rectify the concerns and ideally, experience of caring for animals in a rehoming environment. You’ll have strong administrative, communication and customer care skills with a proven ability to handle difficult and sensitive situations, always working in the best interests of our dogs, customers and the organisation. A knowledge of legislation relating to drivers, vehicles and animal welfare in transit is desirable.
