Job Description:

This position will support the Power and Industrial (P&I) Group in the implementation and oversight of safety and industrial hygiene (IH) programs and policies. The position reports to the Assistant Plant Manager. The Safety Specialist will be responsible for providing technical support and direction to various sites. Experience in industrial safety, safety management system development, training, field/site safety auditing, project management, and hazard identification and control is preferred.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Fulfill the safety role of H&S professional for small sites
  • Create and deliver safety related reports and presentations
  • Provide leadership and direction in proactive safety-related activities
  • Communicate, administer, and maintain existing safety programs and procedures for assigned sites
  • Work with site management to ensure compliance with regulations and adherence to company expectations
  • Develop and present safety related training and educational programs
  • Conduct, monitor and follow up on site safety assessments
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned
  • Travel to project sites to meet duties/responsibilities
  • Develop, implement and continuously improve safety programs

Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of electrical regulations and standards
  • Knowledge of occupational safety regulations
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to function within a matrix organization in which functional and business leaders have equal authority within the organization
  • Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with both a functional (“solid line”) and business leader (“dotted line”), who collaborate on employee issues and decisions, including performance management, compensation and development
  • Organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Qualification & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Occupational Safety or a related field (Industrial Safety, Construction Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, etc.)
  • Knowledge of and experience with safety management systems (ISO 45001, OHSAS 18001, ANSI Z10)
  • Experience in heavy industrial operations, power plants, industrial energy services and/or renewable energy operations
  • An Associate’s degree in Occupational Safety or a related field (Industrial Safety, Construction Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, etc.) and five years practical experience in the field of safety.
