Job Description:
The position is responsible for assisting and working in the absence of the Fire Marshal to direct the fire prevention and life safety programs of the District including plan reviews, inspections, special events, fire investigation, wildfire mitigation and enforcement activities. The Deputy Fire Marshal serves as an authority in all matters regarding interpretation of adopted codes and supervises fire inspector(s) and other assigned personnel. The Deputy Fire Marshal represents the District and interacts regularly with local building officials, construction professionals, building owners and property managers. Position conducts and participates in public education and public relations programs; performs other related duties as directed.
Job Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate, direct, organize, schedule, assign, delegate and direct fire prevention and life safety activities of the District. Execute various administrative and special assignments, including but not limited to the development, implementation and supervision for safe, effective and efficient life safety, fire prevention and fire investigation programs.
- Ensures that the District provides appropriate fire safety inspections for all major occupancies within the District and develops programs for staff to perform and deliver fire inspections and preplanning services to the community; provides and recommends training to the District personnel as necessary to support community risk reduction.
- Develop, implement and maintain the inspection program for existing buildings to include tracking database information, preparing reports and the assignment of inspections. Validate that the quality and accuracy of the inspection process is being upheld to the CBFPD’s standards.
- Direct, oversees, and participates as necessary in inspections of all building and property for fire hazards and compliance with adopted fire codes.
- Coordinate development, delivery and implementation of life safety education programs, including but not limited to: fire prevention week activities, fire drills, and public safety press releases. Directs, coordinates, and participates in fire safety and prevention activities with other governmental agencies, schools, and other public and private groups.
- Interpret policies, directive and regulations to ensure their proper application; ensure preparation and maintenance of proper records and reports.
- As necessary, respond to fire calls to initiate fire investigations. May assist on incidents as requested in non-firefighting positions such as investigator, public information officer, liaison and safety.
- Respond to inquiries regarding fire safety and fire code compliance issues from the public, property owners or the media, keeping immediate supervisor apprised of such issues. Instruct owners in the removal of hazards investigate complaints and assist in educating the public in order to prevent fires and advocates life safety measures.
Job Requirements:
- International Code Council (ICC) certification as a Fire Inspector I
- Current valid Colorado driver’s license
- CPR certification
- ++Preferred Qualifications: ++
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in any field
Qualification & Experience:
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Experience: 3 – 5 Years
- ++Minimum Qualifications: ++
- Previous experience as a firefighter or code official or equivalent
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
