Job Description:

Fire Chief, City of Elmhurst, IL (47,260). *_Elmhurst is a suburb of Chicago in DuPage County (with a small portion in Cook County) and is one of the best places to live in Illinois. It was incorporated in 1882 as a Village and changed to a city form of government in 1910. Living in Elmhurst offers residents a dense suburban feel and most residents own their homes. In Elmhurst there are a lot of restaurants, coffee shops, and parks. Many young professionals live in the city and the public schools in Elmhurst are highly rated. Job Responsibilities:

Have an open, trustworthy, friendly personality and communication style and a calm demeanor; be one who can establish trust quickly with others along with a strong sense of humor. Have thorough knowledge of the principles of personnel management including recruiting, training, promoting, disciplining, and terminating employees within a fire service context and more.
  • Play an important role in coordinating, facilitating, and managing projects that require involvement across multiple service areas with a strong desire to work in a collegial, team-oriented environment.

Job Requirements:

  • There is no specific residency requirement, but reasonable travel distances are appropriate given the responsibility of the position.
  • EMT-B Certification
  • FEMA Incident Command Certification
  • Illinois Fire Officer III
  • Desired completion of the Executive Fire Officer program from the National Fire Academy.
  • Illinois Driver’s License
  • 7 years or more of experience in senior level management and leadership at the Chief Officer level, or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, Fire, Business or Public Administration, or a related field from an accredited institution. A Master’s Degree is preferred.
  • Must meet the provisions of PA 100-1126 in the Illinois Municipal Code.
  • Desired completion of the Illinois Chief Fire Officer Designation, and/or the Chief Officer Designation from CPSE.
