Homeland Security Employment – Naval Architect

Job Description:

This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, US Coast Guard, Engineering Department in Baltimore, MD.

Job Responsibilities:

• Using scheduling methods such as Critical Path Method, GANTT, and Work Breakdown Structures.
• Integrating all design elements (e.g., structure, equipment, systems, and their components) of Coast Guard ships and boats to provide the desired characteristics of the vessel as a whole.
• Preparing drawings, bills of material, specifications and test memoranda for the procurement, arrangement, installation, testing, modification, maintenance and repair of shipboard structures, HVAC equipment and systems, arrangements, shipboard furniture, galley and mess equipment, weight handling gear, and small boat launching systems.
• Providing technical support to industrial shops, the Surface Forces Logistics Center (SFLC), and maintenance technicians on board operational units.
• Designing the functional external and internal layout of Coast Guard ships and boats.
• Overseeing accomplishment of tests and troubleshoots systems in the event of test failure.
• Performing ship checks and site visits to gather data to support system design.
• Determining buoyancy and stability of ships and boats, during their design, construction and operation.
• Writing technical reports that support project decisions.
• Analyzing, evaluating and preparing new drawings, or modifying existing drawings, using manual draft techniques or Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) equipment.
• Completing designs for installation, modification or replacement of shipboard equipment.
• Managing and completing Time Compliance Technical Orders (TCTO), design, production or other projects as directed.

Job Requirements:

• All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. This includes Time-In-Grade requirements for current status employees applying through merit promotion procedures. Status applicants applying for a promotion must have 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade.
• U.S. Citizenship is required.
