Job Description:
The Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America (MBRDNA) legal department is seeking an experienced attorney who will focus on our U.S. data privacy program. This is an exciting opportunity to work for a premium global brand on emerging automotive technologies. You will serve as a key privacy advisor to technical teams throughout the product life cycle, among other initiatives. You will also work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders to ensure that our company privacy policies and practices align with the rapidly evolving legal landscape.
Job Responsibilities:
- Create and deliver trainings to employees on privacy policies and procedures
- Collaborate with and provide feedback to external affairs team on U.S. privacy legislation and regulations
- Maintain and update MBRDNA’s privacy policies and contractual templates
- Draft, review, and negotiate privacy-related contractual terms in commercial agreements
- Design and conduct privacy assessments
- Collaborate with counterparts at affiliates as needed to align on privacy policies and procedures
- Act as the lead privacy lawyer for MBRDNA, providing guidance on domestic and international privacy and data protection laws (e.g., CCPA, CPRA, CPA, VCDPA, GDPR, BIPA)
- Partner with engineers, IT, legal team members, and other stakeholders to ensure company’s compliance with applicable privacy laws and regulations, and industry best practices
- Refine and oversee implementation of security breach response plans
- Enhance MBRDNA’s U.S. privacy program, with a focus on facilitating software development and novel third-party technology engagements
Qualification & Experience:
- Undergraduate degree and J.D. from an accredited law school
- Significant privacy counseling experience at a technology company
- Technical background
- CIPP/E credential
- Experience in the automotive or autonomous driving industry
- Experience working at a global technology company
- Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP)/U.S. credential
- Member of a State bar in good standing (California or New York preferred)
- At least 6 to 8 years combined data privacy experience in law firm and in-house settings
