Job Description:

NASA Glenn Research Center’s Power Management and Distribution Branch, located within the Power Division, is looking for a highly skilled leader to direct the development of cutting edge technology for Power Drivetrains for High-Power Electrified Aircraft. The position has a high professional stature in electric power in power drivetrain developments and works closely with leaders in the field. This lead will develop power systems and standards for the Agency and Industry.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Initiates and provides detailed engineering analysis, and technical consultations for the design, development, testing, and evaluation of high-power electric aircraft power systems.
  • Serves as a technical lead with respect to technology gaps, team needs, and strategic planning for the development of high-power advanced aircraft power drivetrains which includes hardware design, procurement, fabrication and hardware testing.
  • Assists in ensuring compliance with occupational safety, health, environmental, and energy standards, orders, rules and regulations, and ensuring safe work practices in a safe work environment.
  • Works closely with the project management team at GRC and other NASA centers to negotiate resources to accomplish all hardware development goals and negotiates with GRC management to obtain them.
  • Regularly communicates project status, accomplishments, issues, etc. with the GRC management team that includes branch chief, division chief and senior management.
  • Evaluates new technological trends, identifies potential problems, and identifies promising approaches for achieving highly significant advancements in power systems.
  • Provides hands on guidance in the experimental testing.
  • Technical knowledge of the Glenn Research Center (GRC) core competencies in electrical power systems and to address key technical challenges of electric aircraft propulsion, thermal management, packaging, efficiency, and controls.
  • Develop standards and specifications for high power flight systems.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert in high power electrified aircraft drivetrain or innovative hardware designs development for the Center and within the agency.
