Job Description:

The Aeronautics and Ground-Based Systems Branch is seeking innovation minded candidates with an entrepreneurial bent, able to think at a “big-picture”/system-level to participate in all phases of aeronautics research projects, from the exploratory/discovery-oriented front-end, through formulation and execution. Skills in systems engineering, including model-based systems engineering, with the ability and interest to engage with multiple disciplines and domains is highly desirable.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Utilize digital engineering approaches and tools, such as Model Based Systems Engineering, to implement systems engineering activities.
  • Lead systems engineering activities for Aeronautics projects to ensure delivery of the completed aerospace system.
  • Assist the formulation of ground and flight projects by working closely with Project Managers, Technology Development Managers, Principal Investigators, and Chief Engineers in defining the technical scope of work and the project lifecycle.
  • Participate with discipline individuals in seeking ways to identify new technology being developed in other fields for potential application to solve future aeronautical challenges.
  • Apply knowledge of how products are to be conceptualized, optimized, designed, manufactured, assembled, integrated, verified, validated, and transitioned to the next level of the system.
  • Assist with assessment of desirability, viability, and feasibility of future aeronautical concepts.
  • Lead the development and execution of Systems Engineering Management plans and assist the Project Manager in development of Project plans.
  • Duties described below are at the full-performance level. Duties assigned at a lower grade level will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
