Job Description:
This position is located within the Department of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Marine Fisheries Service, Alaska Fisheries Science Center, Resource Ecology and Fisheries Management Division with 1 vacancy in Seattle, WA.
Job Responsibilities:
- Process biological samples such as fish otoliths in the laboratory by embedding, sectioning, polishing, and preparing slides for the purpose of age determination.
- Organize, enter, and analyze data generated from reading otoliths into ageing data base and resolve discrepancies in age estimates of Alaskan groundfish.
- Examine biological specimens employing stereomicroscope and image analysis software to document structures and patterns, and conduct sampling of otoliths using computer-aided micro-milling machine and assist other investigators in otolith microchemical analysis.
- Contribute findings to research projects in publications and peer-reviewed journals, and participate in seminars and scientific meeting presentations.
Job Requirements:
