Job Description:
TheDepartment of Correctionsis seeking individuals whose primary purpose is to provide care, custody, control, monitoring, and supervision of the re-entrant population housed at a state-operated community corrections center, and to assist other staff in facilitating and monitoring the changes necessary for the offender’s successful completion of the program for re-entry back into the community.
Community Corrections Centers are staffed by three (3) work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Job Responsibilities:
- Monitor, observe, record, and report the behavior of individuals within the Corrections Community Center, and control re-entrant and visitor movement to ensure protection and maintain security within the Center.
- Exercise care, custody, and control over re-entrants; conduct various types of re-entrant searches and checks; supervise and evaluate re-entrants participating in assigned facility work details; provide guidance and advice to new re-entrant arrivals and ensure compliance with Center rules and regulations; provide positive reinforcement and insight into responsible behavior and attitudes; and administer effective discipline over re-entrant behavior.
- Search re-entrants and conduct inspections in all Center areas for contraband.
- Observe re-entrant behavior through one-on-one and/or group interaction, as well as through the CCTV system; write detailed behavior observations and reports, issue misconduct reports for re-entrants committing Center rule infractions, and attend disciplinary hearings.
- Administer and document tests, such as Breathalyzer and Urinalysis tests.
- Maintain a detailed activities log of occurrences, events, and work performed during shift.
- Administer emergency first-aid treatment and/or medical assistance to both re-entrants and staff, as necessary.
- Serve as a representative of the Department for contact with law enforcement agencies and avail themselves to legal proceedings, as required.
- Participate in the facility Accreditation process, as well as, internal and external inspections of the Center.
Job Requirements:
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which supports the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to provide care, custody, control, monitoring, and supervision of individuals in a secure facility.
- PREFER at least two (2) years of work experience performing public safety or security work.
- (Examples of qualifying work experience include, but are not limited to: public safety or security work involving protection of persons and/or property and maintaining required security through enforcement of rules, regulations and laws; public safety or security work in a correctional setting, juvenile or adult development/detention center, law enforcement entity, or military security experience); AND
- In addition to public safety/security work experience listed above,
- PREFER at least one (1) year of work experience providing direction/guidance to individuals.
- (Examples of qualifying work experience include, but are not limited to: performing as a lead worker or supervisor assigning and evaluating work tasks, providing informal counseling, or giving orders in the Military).
