Job Description:

This position with the Orange County Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) is primarily responsible for providing nutrition education training, as well as breastfeeding promotion, education and quality assurance activities. Travel may be required. Licensure by the Department of Health, Division of Medical Quality Assurance as a licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist is mandatory. A Registered Dietitian or eligibility to take the examination for the Registered Dietitian is desirable.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assists Public Health Nutrition Consultant with the new employee orientation of staff to include supervision of nutrition related trainings, including the Nutrition Education Training Series, VENA training, review of CPA guidebook, and assessment of anthropometric, bloodwork and VENA competency.
  • Produces and works reports needed from FL WiSE to include, Milk report, Single User Certification report, WIC Health report, and any other reports needed to support the WIC program. Provides feedback to affected staff to reduce incidence of errors and recognize improvements.
  • Participates in quality assurance and monitoring activities. Compiles data from supervisors related to quality assurance audits performed to determine trends needed for on-going training. Maintains up-to-date knowledge in the current theory and practice of nutrition, dietetics and breastfeeding.
  • Provides information on WIC and Nutrition program services to clients, departmental staff, community organizations/agencies and the public to facilitate access to program services. Prepares and/or assists in the preparation and selection of nutrition education lesson plans and materials for use in nutrition and breastfeeding individual counseling sessions and group presentations. Participates in community outreach events and comprehensive nutrition program activities as requested.
  • Prepares employee activity reports of time and services provided and summarizes nutrition services and activities at biweekly intervals. Prepares and submits requests for travel reimbursement according to established format and procedures. Performs other related duties as requested or as required.

Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position: Knowledge of: the science and current practice of nutrition or dietetics, the concepts and theories of nutrition or dietetics as it relates to growth, development, health or disease, of nutritional and dietary assessment techniques, the methods of compiling, organizing and analyzing data. Ability to: develop educational/training plans and supporting materials, use various communication channels to provide education/training, analyze and interpret anthropometric, biochemical, clinical and dietary data, interview and counsel patients, supervise people, determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments, communicate effectively, establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Computer skills to include: MS Windows, Outlook, MS Edge, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point, PeopleFirst, HMS, FL WiSE data system.
  • This position requires a security background check and/or drug screening and participation in direct deposit.
