Job Description:

Under limited supervision by an Audits and Compliance Division Compliance Manager, the Nutrition Compliance Examiner coordinates and performs reviews to monitor compliance with federal or state policy, regulations, procedures, and standards for the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). Performs verification of the claim submitted by an institution to ensure accuracy and adherence to program requirements. Verifies that institutions have documentation to support that all CACFP or SFSP reimbursement funds are used solely for food service operations. Identifies all nonprofit food service revenue and allowable expenses incurred. Assesses the institution’s ability to manage Program funds. Conducts a review of the approved budget and actual expenses to ensure all expenses have been requested and approved in accordance with regulations and procedures established by the Nutrition Division. Ensures the institution’s operating and administrative costs are necessary, reasonable, and properly allocated. Ensures the institution did not report any costs that are an unallowable use of program reimbursement or included as a cost to another program. Ensures compliance with other areas of program requirements. The geographic region for this position covers position covers the following 17 counties; Bryan, Burke, Bulloch, Candler, Chatham, Effingham, Emanuel, Glascock, Jefferson, Jenkins, Johnson, Laurens, Richmond, Screven, Treutlen, Washington, and Wilkinson; however, on occasion, assignments may be located in other areas of the state.

Job Responsibilities:

Completes the following tasks when performing audits and/or financial reviews of organizations:

  • Plans and coordinates reviews and special investigations of program participants;
  • Monitors CACFP and SFSP participants for compliance with state and/or federal guidelines via reviews.
  • Maintains knowledge of changes in federal rules and regulations and state policies for the CACFP and SFSP;
  • Serves as Complaint Intake Consultant one day every other week;
  • Participates in various agency activities to ensure the Audits and Compliance Division operates effectively within the Bright from the Start organizational structure; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Work is comprised of working approximately 50% in a field environment and 50% in an office environment.
  • Office environment includes sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Field work includes standing or walking for long periods of time; regularly requires bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling and moving items or materials occasionally of moderate weight (10-20 pounds).
  • The worker must have a valid Georgia driver’s license, insurance coverage and the ability to drive for extensive periods as needed.
  • Full range of hand and finger motion is required for data entry purposes.
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.
  • The ability to speak clearly is required.
  • The ability to hear and understand at a normal conversational level is required.
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading and visual inspection.
  • Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria, as opposed to that which is clearly measurable or verifiable.
  • Statewide travel will be required to conduct and/or assist in monitoring and technical assistance visits including overnight travel.
  • Must possess reliable transportation (i.e. personal motor vehicle) and may be permitted use of official state vehicle or rental vehicle when justified/authorized.
