Job Description:

The primary duties will be to advise and mentor first-year undergraduate students in the College, as well as transfer and change of major students. Activities include meeting with each student to discuss career goals, review specific study plans for their selected major, and ensuring successful pre-registration for classes. The Advisor will collect and maintain data related to the advising process. In addition, the Advisor will work in partnership with the First Year Experience Committee, the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Success Initiatives, and instructors of the First Year Experience courses. The Advisor will serve as a liaison with various student Support Services such as the Student Success Center, Career Services, Counseling Services, and Disability Services. In particular, the Advisor will work with first year students who experience academic challenges during the first year of college.

Job Requirements:

  • Willing and able to occasionally work in the evenings and on weekends
  • Ability to take initiative, problem-solve, and function independently
  • Responsive to feedback from others
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a discipline listed above
  • Leadership experience (volunteer or paid)
  • Effective technology skills, with experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Applicants with a Master’s degree or experience in student development/personnel/affairs in higher education will be strongly considered
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborates effectively with others
  • Dependable; effective time management and organizational skills
