Uber Internship – Security Engineering Manager

Job Description:

We are seeking a Security Engineering Manager with technical depth, security intuition, and entrepreneurial spirit to join our Cyber Defense team! This innovator will lead the Threat Detection program that detects and tracks cybersecurity threats of all types. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to create innovative detection and threat hunting strategies while helping to develop a best-in-class threat detection program.

• Drive cross organizational detection and threat hunting initiatives.
• Drive a talented team to innovate, build, and refine advanced threat detections and content.
• Define roadmap, prioritization and key metrics.
• Help talented engineers develop toward their goals
• Partner with other engineering teams, including incident response, to achieve cross-organizational goals.

Job Requirements:

• Ability to drive a small team to innovative solutions
• Are comfortable generating automated metrics to measure service and program effectiveness and consistency
• Ability to set roadmaps and hit targets
• Familiarity building detections mapped to the MITRE ATT&CK matrix
• Ability to set and achieve buy-in for strategic vision for the program
• Ability to communicate ideas and proposals concisely, both verbally and written, to senior staff members
• Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.
• Ability to make concrete progress in the face of ambiguity and imperfect knowledge (avoid “analysis paralysis”)
• Ability to distill complex security problems and drive toward creative solutions
• Experience performing threat modeling and design reviews to identify new detection use cases.

Qualification & Experience:

• Experience with tools and techniques for analyzing large security datasets
• 5+ years of experience in a threat detection, threat hunting or intrusion analyst role
• Experience building detection logic and utilizing security logs to detect malicious activity with high fidelity across a broad set of detection use cases.
• Understanding of adversary capabilities, infrastructure, and techniques.
• Experience with the majority of security log signals from Linux, macOS, Windows, EDR, NSM, and public cloud
• 2+ years of experience leading or serving as the senior technical lead of a security team
