Job Description:

Duty station of this position may remain that of the selectee or may be any USGS location that is agreed upon by the selecting official and the selectee. If the agreed upon location results in relocation of the selectee, the travel, transportation, and relocation expenses are not authorized.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Works collaboratively with USGS staff in multiple offices to build consensus on experimental and “fit-for-purpose” water data collection and dissemination.
  • Works with instrument manufacturers to collaboratively develop, refine, and evaluate innovative water monitoring technologies.
  • Provides expert advice on the modification of established hydrologic techniques or procedures to meet emerging water data needs.
  • Provides leadership and develops work processes to increase access to experimental and “fit-for-purpose” water data of tiered accuracy for integrated water science and modeling.
  • Evaluates innovative water monitoring technologies and develops formal procedures that result in their inclusion in national water monitoring networks.
  • Serves as an advisor and trainer for other USGS staff involved in experimental water data collection and processing.
  • Writes and publishes reports of findings as internal or external reports, recommendations to resource managers, or scientific journal publications.
