Job Description:
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is looking for an experienced transportation engineer with excellent communication skills to join the Traffic Management Division (TMD). As the Traffic Operations Data Engineer, you will manage the system of field data collection sensors that impact algorithms for travel time messaging, ramp meter rates, and Express Lanes tolls. You will also help manage and develop the software that stores this data and purchased probe data. Another important role is to analyze the data to produce travel delay forecasts for holiday travel and other performance metrics. You will manage consultant contracts and coordinate with maintenance technicians, Control Room operators, and project teams.
Job Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with the UDOT regions and other municipalities
- Work closely with electronic technicians to plan for new deployment and replacement of existing data collection sensors
- Produce travel delay forecast for holidays and major events
- Analyze data to develop and produce performance measures to track system performance and prioritize resource allocation
- Ensure data quality from field sensors during construction and normal operation
- Manage device integration process including establishing requirements in specifications and tracking during construction and implementation
- Communicate complex traffic analysis results to varied audiences effectively in visual, written, and verbal formats
- Lead the Traffic Management Division’s efforts to fully utilize traffic data
- Actively participate on Technical Advisory Committees as an advisor to research projects
- Manage contracts and development for data management software
Job Requirements:
- Experience with data management and analytics
- Has at least 2 years of traffic operations experience
- Strong leadership and partnering skills
- Strong communication skills
